The tradition of St. Joseph Altars began in the middle ages and was brought to this country by Sicilian immigrants. Today individuals work on the altars to fulfill their own promises to St. Joseph which are "to share their blessing with those in need". There are no formal meetings, but the ministry does get together to gather donations, prepare the altar, bake cookies, and help with the publicity and cleanup. All leftovers from the Altar are given to the poor. Commitment is during the Feast of St. Joseph. Any time you can give is welcomed and appreciated.
