Think how fast two seconds are. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. Over 14 million blood transfusion are given each year. Where does this blood come from? There is only one anser: human donors. Blood cannot be manufactured. Did you know 38% of the people in the U.S. are eligible to donate blood, but only around 6% actually donate? Some of the 94% of U.S. residents that do not donate have ligitimate reasons: illness, medication, etc., but that is only a small number. The fact is, most people elibible to donate choose not to do so. The cost is one hour of time to help up to three people. Every year several parishioners at Immaculate Conception receive blood transfusions. Because of the generosity of the parishioners is covered. They do not need to worry about getting it replaced. If a parishioner receives blood, they just call the parish nurse, and the blood will be covered by the Blood Assurance program with the OLOL Blood Bank.
Blood is life giving, and all eligible parishioners are encouraged to give blood at our fall Knights of Columbus blood drive on October 2 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the small hall. After the 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Masses, there will be coffee and donuts to snack on, and after the 11 a.m. Mass, there will be jambalaya from the Knights of Columbus.
